On a popular text by author and anonymous compilation data, Franco Li Causi composes a musical text to adapt the text of a melody that is part of the soundtrack - as an opening piece - to the film The journey of hope by director Pietro Germs. Li Causi's version was a song of work, with slow and dark tones, adhering to the poetic cadence of the text. The same text received by Li Causi in recitation by an old miner from Favara, a story by Giuseppe Cibardo Bisaccia. The first recording of the song was made in 1951 by Michelangelo Verso and published on 78 laps by Cetra. In 1964 Gabriella Ferri and Luisa De Santis recorded a reworking, signing words and music (Ferri-De Santis). In the furrow story and in the climate of folk groups, in the 1970s the singing adapts to the most carefree tones of the popular ballad. Only in 1979 did the SIAE attribute the authorship rights to the piece to Franco Li Causi.
